At McKernan Restoration, we pride ourselves on working to the highest possible standard. We can carry out any level of restoration up to concourse winning cars.
We believe that the car restoration process is much more than a business transaction, it is a relationship between the builder, the owner and the car itself.
We take tremendous care in every part of the restoration process so that you can rest assured that your car will look and feel better than the day it left the factory.
All of our restorations begin by understanding your goals and assessing the current state of your car. From there, elements of the following processes will be used.
First, your car will be dismantled and cataloged. The car is then fitted to a rotisserie, bead blasted to expose every imperfection - including signs of corrosion and all previous repairs the car has ever had.
We will then make any necessary repairs and replace all damaged and corroded panels with new ones, fabricating those that are no longer available. All bodywork repairs will be performed using the traditional methods as used in the factor where the cars were originally built.
The repaired body is then prepped for paint. An etch primer is applied, followed by a rust inhibitor primer, seam sealer, under seal and top primer. Finally, your choice of colour will be applied.
All mechanical and electrical parts are then tested, rebuilt or overhauled/replaced as necessary.
The car is then reassembled with precision by our highly qualified and knowledgable team.
Finally, everything will be tested and the car prepared to start its new life with you.
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
